The 2nd Trimester
We kicked off the second trimester with a virtual gender reveal on November 22, 2020. Thanks to Anna, Keeper of the Gender, we were totally surprised. I had said boy all along, but Dan was convinced it was a girl and almost had me convinced as well.
Unfortunately, this trimester didn't see a huge improvement in morning sickness for quite a while. At the end of the post, you will see how inconsistent I was with bumpdate photos - this was because of the sickness. I never felt like getting dressed or doing my hair/makeup, so the bumpdates didn't always happen. It did get more manageable and I slowed down on getting sick, but it didn't really go away until after Christmas, around 18 weeks.
This is when my nesting phase kicked in. I was ready to organize the whole house, get rid of things, and start getting the baby's room ready. We really didn't start working on the nursery until after the 20 week appointment and ultrasound. Again, I was afraid of doing anything too early. We also started working on our registry and getting advice from friends since there was so much we knew nothing about!
Just a few weeks after the morning sickness went away, the heartburn got bad. By February, the heartburn and reflux was so bad that I was getting sick again. Fortunately, the doctor gave me some medicine that quickly resolved it, but I just had to stay away from the spicy foods I loved.
I was so ready to start feeling Baby Boy OC move! I would feel little flutters here and there, but I was starting to worry that I wasn't feeling him enough. The 20 week ultrasound showed that my placenta was in the front, so that was why I was a little behind in feeling as much movement. We saw him moving on the ultrasound and the tech said the kicks were already looking big, so I'd be feeling them soon. By around 23-24 weeks I was feeling him often enough to calm my nerves and Dan was even able to catch a couple small kicks here and there.
At the end of February, Dan had been fully vaccinated, so we got to return to work. I was definitely sporting a small bump, although some people said I was still barely showing. This is also when the swollen ankles started. I hadn't been up and moving much when teaching from home, so I was definitely tired going back, but it actually felt really good to be getting more movement into my days. I was also able to start some short, light workouts during the second trimester, although once the round ligament pain started, I slowed down on them a bit and just tried to get more walking in.
Overall, once I hit the 20 week mark I was mostly doing a lot better! Excited to be moving into the third trimester and feel Baby move even more! :)
