Doctors

This is an update on some of the difficulties we have been facing recently as we tried to move forward. I do not share this to be critical of anyone that we have dealt with along the way. We understand that the doctors that we have dealt with were doing as much as they could for us. That being said, we want to share this just to share our difficult journey. We want others to understand our frustrations and emotions that have build up along the way.

I previously mentioned that I had gotten a referral to a specialist. There were some things that made us feel like that referral was not where we were meant to be. We decided that the next step was to talk to Dan's doctors at Barnes. As I said, the doctors there told us to "give it time" because Dan was within a year of transplant and fertility can take time to build it back up.

We decided that we would contact his nephrologist here in town. It took several phone calls to get ahold of someone, and Dan was finally told that he should call his primary care doctor to schedule his testing. Dan called his doctor 5 times over three weeks trying to get ahold of someone to answer his question. No one from the doctor's office would call him back, he would just get messages from a fertility specialist's office about making an appointment. This was the same specialist that we had chosen not to see back in June. Finally, Dan talked to someone at the primary care office. He asked if they could order the tests for him since he had already had another doctor say he needed them, and he was told that they cannot order any tests to be done and would need to see a specialist.

We discussed it again, and we decided that we would try to make an appointment with the fertility specialist. We weren't sure of any other options that we had, and although we hadn't felt like it was the right fit, we wanted to move forward. Dan began calling to try and get an appointment. He called three times. The first two times there was no answer and no way to leave a message. The third time Dan talked to someone and left a message, but did not get a call back.

At this point, I started to look into other options. We found a doctor in another town not too far away that had amazing reviews online and was in our insurance network. I decided I would try to call there. All I have had was a 5 minute phone call with them, and I am already so impressed. They were nice when I talked to them, and in 5 minutes I had an appointment set.

Please be praying with us as the appointment approaches. We are excited that things are moving forward, but we are also anxious about the appointment. Pray that we have found a good fit with a doctor, and that our nerves will be calmed before the appointment.
